How to get pnpm to play nice with Nx

I'm looking at moving from npm to pnpm but am having some trouble with postinstall scripts for cypress (see this link https://dev.to/this-is-learning/setting-up-an-angular-12-workspace-with-nx-and-github-actions-32l5). I have tried the suggested solutions but the issue is still there. And I only get the issues the resolving from pnpm-lock.yaml, without the lock-file there are no errors. Has anyone gotten pnpm to work with Nx? I guess I could remove cypress completely as we don't use it at the moment, however we are considering doing it in the future.
