Looking for DeDRM or NoDRM to allow me to remove the DRM from a Kindle e-book bought one week ago from Amazon that arrived as .....kfx-zip file. I have tried installing the v10.0.9 DeDRM zip file along with KFX Input v2.5.0 and KFX Output v2.3.0 but still it does not work (and the DeDRM does not appear in the 'List of plug-ins: Installed). |

I've just checked several ways of adding kfx format books with my own Kindle and was able to successfully remove the drm. With the Kindle plugged in, click add books and navigate to the documents folder on the Kindle. Select the book and click open. Or open the same location in file explorer and drag and drop the book into calibre. If you're going to copy a kfx book to the computer and add from there, be sure to copy the corresponding folder of files as well. Then you can either use add books or drag and drop. The KFX Input plugin needs the files in their original folder structure to get all the info needed so DeDRM can then decrypt it. Hope that makes it more clear. |

Don't click the folder. Click the kfx file that's in the documents folder. KFX Input will take care of gathering up the other files. |

A kfx-zip file is not from Amazon. That is created by the KFX Input plugin and then for whatever reason the DRM wasn't removed. So not sure how it got saved back to the Kindle or what happened to the original kfx file. But try adding the kfx-zip to calibre and see if the DRM is removed now. If that doesn't do it, try downloading a new copy to the Kindle and importing that. |

Tried a different approach - got book delivered to my PC which arrived as an AZW3, opened Calibre and selected Add books then selected the book from File Explorer. Book now visible in Calibre but still will not convert. |

i need some help. i have calibre for windows and calibre portable installed. on calibre portable, i managed to get everything working. however, on calibre for windows, the file loads fine, but no metadata (book name, author) or cover image appears. if i open the viewer, everything appears fine too. but then i'd have to edit all the metadata manually, which would be a lot of work. i think it's some setting i'm missing, since on calibre portable i've had no problems. does anyone know how i can solve it? |

Interestingly, I had something very similar to this. The titles come through as a load of random characters with ".azw" on the end, eg "CR!36AADDNP6N4P79H8SMCND4W5MWG3.azw". I've found that rather than adding books from folders and subfolders (and treating multiple files as the same book), if I just do a single folder and point it explicitly at the .azw file, then it imports correctly. If I point it at the .azw.md file, than it imports with the long gibberish name. So it appears the question is how to stop it trying to import the .azw.md files instead of the .azw ones? Under Adding Books prefs - Adding Actions - Rules to filter added files, I added "Ignore if the filename ends with .md". That seems to have sorted my problem! Hope this is useful. |

I couldn't find the problem. When I uninstalled the program other times, there were traces of the old settings and it still didn't work. So I followed a few tips. I uninstalled the program again, deleted the Calibre configuration directory (%APPDATA%\calibre), cleaned up the registry, installed it again and, well, it worked. Something was wrong, but I no longer had the patience to find the error. Thanks to everyone who tried to help! |

Hi Elle, thanks for your response. I am now able to decrypt KFX using the latest softwares suggested in this thread. The only issue I see is with the cover page where the link for cover page in the TOC of the book is not working. Any idea how to fix that ? |

I don't know. If you convert it into azw3 or epub, then you could use calibre's ebook editor. But that might introduce more issues. |

From that log it appears that the .kfx-zip file used was manually generated and included AppleDouble files, those with names matching data files but with a "._" prefix. The next release of the KFX Input plugin will ignore those unexpected files. |

I have Kobo Desktop installed on the same computer as Calibre. I have Calibre 7.0 and Obok DeDRM v10.0.9. Kobo Desktop is 4.37.xxxxxx. I tried to run Calibre in development mode but it didn't report anything when I clicked on the Obok DeDRM button and just showed the error message. |

Try closing Kobo Desktop before using Obok. If you know the book should have DRM, don't try to import it when it has a open green lock next to it. Close and reopen Obok (or calibre itself) and then see if the book has a red closed lock before importing to calibre. |

I had 9 books to convert to PDF, I converted 8 successfully with Kindle for Mac 1.31, Calibre 5.44, DeDRM, and KFX input plugins. However, my last book simply won't convert, when I download it from Kindle for Mac, it doesn't give me an .awz file at all. And if I download it from amazon, Calibre says it still has DRM and won't convert. This is only 1 of the 9 books (I do think it's the most recently published one). Anyone have any insight? |

When you download it from Amazon, are you choosing an E-ink Kindle? Do you have that Kindle's serial number entered into DeDRM's customization correctly? |

I have entered the serial number, yes, which is why I was able to convert all the other books. The way I downloaded them was through Kindle for Mac 1.31. When you double-click the book, it downloads automatically, I didn't choose what way to download it. With the DeDRM, I did pick e-ink Kindle. |

The serial number is only for books downloaded from the website with "download & transfer via USB" for an E-ink Kindle (not a Fire). The key for Kindle for Mac books is retrieved automatically by DeDRM from where it's stored on your computer and decrypted. So something else is going on here. Other books with my Adobe ID work but not the one with my Vendor ID. It would be great to know the technical reason for that given that both keys are stored on the computer and I can view them in the ADE app. |

Since quite a bit of code has changed, this is a beta / RC release before v10.1.0 is released. I don't expect there to be any new bugs, though.
Versions 10.0.4(s), 10.0.5(s) and 10.0.6(s) were released by other people in various forks, here's a larger version jump to 10.0.9 / 10.1.0 so we don't have conflicting plugin builds with the same version numbers.
