after ive downloaded VMWare, VMMON nor VMNET wouldn't compile nor load after running the make and make install commands (make install command didn't work either)
"sudo make install" gave the error "make: *** No rule to make target 'vmmon-only/vmmon.ko',
needed by 'install'. stop.
VMWare WS 17.5.2
kernel 6.9.3

My experience was that I simply needed to tar up vmmon.tar and vmnet.tar, place them in /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source, and run VMware Workstation. At that point, it went through its normal process of module detection, asked for permission, and then built/installed all on its own.
That worked for 17.5.2 (using these modules) and 17.6.0 (which ships compatible source). Kernel 6.8.0-41.
