Solution

Some ideas:

1. make master grid multi dimensional ? instead of a 1D array
2. each compartment and maybe each region of the recipe can have it's own grid with different grid spacing. the master grid just stores the knowledge of what compartment owns a grid point

Need to make sure to look at grid points around the surface
