Since upgrading to pacman 7.0.0.r3.g7736133-1 which is in testing repo currently, I've getting this error upon executing checkrebuild or when it's triggered by pacman hooks.

Thanks for reporting! I'm unable to check myself at the moment, could you confirm if you also run the dependencies from the testing repos, namely pacutils and pacman-contrib? My best guess is that one of those tools (e.g. pacconf) does not know about the new option, and I'm further guessing that the versions in the testing repos might have the necessary fix already.
