Hello,
Firstly thanks so much for all the effort that you put in to maintaining these apps. We have been users for several months and have been impressed at how stable it has been with the API - not easy I know!

Up until about two days ago, we were able to access the HDR streams using a Fire Stick 4k Max at 2160p with Widevine L1 enabled. A slyguy common error appeared this morning and since then following an update to 0.17.5 we have only been served the 1080p SDR HEVC variant as the maximum quality level (HEVC and HDR10/Dolby Vision are enabled in Prefs and the display res is 2160p50), still attached to the same LG UHD TV in HDR10 mode. The default audio language being served has also changed to German and subtitles are enabled by default which they weren't before, also German - manually able to change back to English and disable subs. We are based in the UK.

Our subscription hasn't changed and we were able to access UHD streams outside of the Kodi app. I did a clean install of the common and add-on (0.17.5) and the issue persists I'm afraid. Previously was on 0.17.3?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated,
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide,
CB

are you not getting the quality select dialog at all?

Sounds like maybe the slyguy proxy hasnt started.
Could you please get me a kodi debug log?

Hello, thanks for the quick reply.

I am getting quality selection dialog yes and I have the full bouquet of HEVC SDR resolutions up to 11Mb/s at 1920x1080 (11 resolutions on the ladder where there's usually 14). 1440p is also not present.

I did try disabling the proxy usage in settings and toggle off/on and neither seemed to make a difference unfortunately.

Logs - yes certainly, been pulled into work so may not get chance until later but will do.

Thanks again.

Definitely a L1 device (Fire Stick 4k Max 2022 vintage - BBC iPlayer 4K HDR's quite happy).

Tried in auto and forced out of L1 and back in again, no difference I'm afraid. Inputstream adaptive is also up to date.

Not via the Kodi add-on no, HDR10 and Dolby Vision both enabled in Disney+ settings (shouldn't make a difference I wouldn't have thought but I turned HDR10/DV and HEVC on in the slyguy common settings too in addition to the Disney+ player settings)

I have a similar problem. Since the last update of slyguy common, I can't play 4K content on both Disney+ and Max and the sound is suddenly set to Czech on everything. This didn't happen before :(

GG-76 commented Nov 25, 2024

so the problem is probably something else. I can't even get 4K in the Amazon Prime Video addon. So the problem is probably with ISA?

@GG-76 I suspect your not using a L1 android device. If thats the case - then you wont get 4K streams on most of the services.
If you are using L1 android device and you were previously getting 4k on the same device - then could be IA.

Without logs, its hard to tell.
You didnt specify if 4K was working previously on the same device...

Regarding the default audio language.
Go to Kodi settings -> player -> language -> set the preferred audio language to whatever language you want as default.
For slyguy supporters - there is also an addon setting that can do the same thing

I believe the ops issue may be due to the addon using an older API which seems to be just removing more and more features.
I have a task to update to latest - but its a bit of a bigger job and been busy lately

@matthuisman I probably didn't say it clearly, but yes, everything worked for me on the same device a few days ago, including 4k playback, now the screen is black and there's only sound. There's also a problem with the default language. I didn't change any settings, I have English set as the default, and then in the last few days everything suddenly plays in Czech.

@matthuisman Thanks for the reply and I can sympathise - my job has meant I've not been able to get you logs either but it is still on the to do list, very grateful that you've written anything at all API wise to be honest, just nice to be able to use in Kodi! - by the ops issue is this talking about the higher level streams or language settings? Just so I'm clear and will see if there's anything obvious error wise when I get to log data when submitting.

@GG-76 not sure if this helps you but I did have an issue a few weeks back using my Fire stick following an update where I had to toggle the HDR colour mapping from adaptive to off and then back to adaptive as Amazon FS was showing as SDR output in metadata regardless of my HDR setting, it needed a toggle on/off to restore signalling to advertise HDR availability, this restored HDR Rec 2020 switching for apps outside of Kodi and restored HDR availability in the list of available streams. Perhaps try toggling HDR on/off and see if that helps restore for your other apps?? (obviously if you're using something other than an Amazon device this may not help but it was definitely an issue for me about 6 weeks ago)

@GG-76 thanks. Can you be clear if the HDR / 4K streams are showing in the quality select?
If they arn't - thats a me issue.
If they are but not working - usually device / kodi / inputstream.adaptive issue

So I finally found out what the problem was. The "Try avoiding the use of secure decoder" option was enabled in ISA and it was causing the problems described. But it must have been turned on somehow by itself, or after an ISA update, I don't know... because I always have this turned off on all devices....

@matthuisman

my addon does enable that, but only for non-secure L1 devices (L3 devices)
Did you by any chance you switch the widevine level to L3 at some point?

@GG-76

GG-76 commented Nov 27, 2024

definitely not, but I'm not saying your addon is to blame either. I'm just saying that I definitely didn't set the option manually, so something must have set it, but that probably doesn't matter, the important thing is that I know what caused the problem and I fixed it.

Great :-) could you open a seperate issue about the default subtitles, id like to get that sorted.
On that issue - please specify

  1. supporter status yes / no
  2. Kodi interface language value
  3. Kodis subtitle language setting value

GG-76 commented Nov 29, 2024

@matthuisman I found out that I don't have a problem with subtitles, I have a problem with the sound in Max. Suddenly, Czech is constantly being selected as my default sound language, even though I haven't changed the settings. In the default sound settings in Max, I have this: "default, original, interface,en" so I don't know if there's a problem with that. For example, in the Dune Prophecy series, the Czech stream is displayed as the default in the streams, but I don't know what affects it and how I can change it. In Disney+ works that right.

Hi @matthuisman ,
Apologies for not coming back to you sooner, it has been an extremely busy week here but finally had chance to get log files out for you like you suggested. Kodi log attached.

I've tried on a 2nd Fire Stick 4k max with a flattened configuration and downloaded the latest versions of the Disney+ addon and Slyguy common and I am being served the HEVC HD SDR streams but anything HDR or higher than 1080p is not showing in Disney+ (see pictures 1 and 3, two different devices on Disney+ v0.17.5 with two different UHD verified contents). I've installed a separate add-on that is for Amazon Prime Video and that is picking up UHD streams and HDR and is decoding correctly (see picture 2), just to check that there are no issues in input stream adaptive (I have also tried what you suggested to GG-76 and I'm afraid that didn't help unfortunately - the 2nd new fire stick installation did default to German in the same as the other so I am having the same issue as quoted in the new issue above).

Let me know if there's any further detail you need and again, thank you very much for your time!

Cheers

@cbconrad ok
The quality select your seeing is Inputstream Adaptives quality select feature which often doesnt actually work correctly.

I think your best turning off IA quality select and have it as manual.
Then during playback, open the OSD to select the higher quality stream.
If its still not shown there - there maybe your IA settings are removing it (they have max quality settings)

Supporters can have the slyguy quality select which shows the correct available streams
I just tried VPN to England and tried the same muppets movie and got 4k no problem

As for the default audio / subs
You'll need to adjust Kodis "Default language" settings to Kodi grabs the correct one.
Again - supporters have a setting that can set the default language in the manifest to a certain value.
This just saves having to change the kodi setting

i suspect your IA got updated or settings changed across those 2 days.
slyguy common updates very often so think you suspected it was that

Ill close this for now.
Let me know if fiddling with IA settings doesnt resolve it

Supporter perks are here fyi:
https://www.matthuisman.nz/2024/01/supporter-perks.html

Basically they just enhance the experience and try to make the addons rely less on Kodi / IA settings.
