Synapse pursues CNAME results for both SRV targets and well-known lookups. The former is a direct violation of the IETF's specification and the latter is a violation (or oversight) of the Matrix specification. We should support at least CNAME redirection for the latter as the Synapse developers operate at the behest of their underlying libraries and have no ability to remove this behavior.
