Milne et al (1995) potentially asks for colour to be recorded for most soil solids. This is somewhat excessive given that many soil features besides the matrix and redox mottles have a very narrow range of possible colours by their nature, and their colour is usually not one of their important features.
The new proposal asks for colour patterns under a narrower set of circumstances - to provide evidence of redox action, preferential flow, parent material weathering or mixing. Is this sufficient? Too simple?
