I am sorry, but I cannot follow up on this project now for a number of reasons:
People do crazy stuff with this tool far beyond the original intention. Even a tiny change can potentially break their scripts. I do not wish to end up in a support nightmare.
The issue tracker to me indicates expectations beyond the abilities of this approach. XSection is not a process simulator, so it does not "etch". The results may resemble some physics under certain conditions only. I cannot turn this into a physics engine. Expectations towards a more realistic image cannot be met.
I don't have the bandwidth.
I know very well, how useful this tool is. But I also know what abyss its use can lead into.
I will provide maintenance, specifically with respect to compatibility with future KLayout versions and functional bug fixes. But no new features. I will also not accept pull requests for new features.
You are free to fork this project and add your own features. Please note, that this project is copyleft.
