Dashboard Settings

Here's a description of each item you see on your stream's dashboard.

Setting Name Description
Video Title Video title - this only shows when a viewer clicks the video
Description The description shows up in the video's post, viewer's feed, etc
Profile/Page What profile/page/group/event to send video to
Privacy The video privacy setting
Continuous Whether the video is a "continuous" video (see below for details
Sticky Mode Whether to enable "sticky mode" (see below)

Continuous Video

Facebook has two kinds of live videos:

  • Regular
    • Notifies friends/followers that you're live
    • Saves video to Facebook for playback later
    • Maximum time of 4 hours
  • Continuous
    • Does not notify friends/followers that you're live
    • Does not save video to Facebook for playback later
    • No maximum time

Sticky Mode

By default, multistreamer will automatically end the Facebook Live video when you disconnect, and creates a new live video everytime you start pushing video.

In sticky mode, the Facebook Live video is only made the first time you push video. When you disconnect, the Facebook Live video is left in the "live" state, and subsequent video pushes will re-use that video.

Sticky Mode is useful for long video streams, buggy connections, etc - instead of starting a new stream and making multiple posts, you can keep re-connecting to the same stream.

All the time limits of regular/continuous video still apply, and the stream will need to be stopped manually using Facebook. Facebook Pages have an interface for manually stopping the stream (go into "Publishing Tools", then "Video Library", you'll be able to pull up the video and click "End Live Video"). As far as I know, there's no manual interface for ending a Live Video on a personal profile, group, or event.

If you push a regular video in "sticky mode" and disconnect, Facebook will end the Live Video after being disconnected for a few minutes.

If you instead push a continuous video in "sticky mode," Facebook will never end the Live Video - the only way to end the video is to either delete the video, or (for pages) go into Publishing Tools and end it that way. I only recommend using sticky mode + continuous on a Facebook Page.

I highly recommend making a new Stream within Multistreamer when doing a sticky-mode video.
