Search features

I want to be able to do the following, and I'm wondering if it would be easy/ if it is already implemented.

1. I want the search to have a results page, this way I could link someone the results of the search, for example example.com?search=whatever

2. I want to make the search bar the focus of the homepage, kind of like google.com.

Any help would be appreciated.
