Early Pre-Release: Nightly 1 (r3_8_2nightly1) has been released

Since the JSON-RPC feature has been merged, I've tagged a nightly. This can and should be tested for everyone who wants to test "bleeding edge".
There have been quite some other smaller improvements, so it would be great to have people testing it. Note: There might be stability issues or unknown behaviour. This is an EARLY PRERELEASE.

My servers has been upgraded to be based on this version. Apart from the newly-added API authentication mechanism, the upgrade went smoothly.
