Think figuring out concrete project outcomes will be a better start for making sure you know what the end goal is. Once that is done, it'll be easier to explore areas throughout the project to implement abstraction.
As for initial thoughts at least from me on abstraction is that "amount of LOC" (lines of code). There should be a great variety of posts from no LOCs to nearly full size programs, so there's different levels. Another way to look at it is to compare "lines of explanation" vs LOCs. If LOCs are given with no explanation, its a bit more difficult to understand (at least from my experience), so its an area to explore.
