I will apologize in advance if there are lapses in protocol or judgement that I could have observed to preclude this issue. I have not encountered corruption of .INK files before, and will make sure to keep .INK and .TXT copies in my system periodically.
I have recently started working on a single-file CYOA-type script for two weeks now. As first-time ventures go, I have made 'spaghetti knots' that made the script confusing to read, and wanted to rectify it by copy-pasting story segments into a new file with better knots and directories. I saved both files and kept the Ink windows running before putting my laptop into sleep mode for dinner. What I did NOT know was that the system would reboot for some reason, and when I opened my .INK files everything was replaced with '. . . . .' symbols in one line of code spanning the approximate size and length of my previous progress.
I tried restarting my system and re-opening the file; still broken. I also tried installing the most recent (but also the same) version of Ink and ran the .INK files again. Still the same '. . . . .' for ALL of my .INK files in that folder. This includes a previous script I made--it's a simple "CYOA" script at about 1.4k words long with looped 'optional' choices for practice--that was in the same folder. I did not open it during my typing session, but it got corrupted anyways. Fortunately, the corruption only seems to be limited to that one folder, as another practice file I made and stored in a different directory was spared this fate.
I will attach screenshots of the corrupted .INK file and a copy of an early version via .TXT in this post. Could anyone help me restore the lost data, or un-corrupt the files somehow? I have not found this issue being discussed anywhere after a casual search, so I took the plunge to make an account here and ask for help.
Any insights and assistance on this issue would honestly make my day. I am using Inky version 0.15.1, ink version 1.2.0, and inkjs version 2.2.3 on an ASUS Aspire laptop with Windows 11 as my OS. If dropping the corrupted .INK files are necessary, please do tell so I can add it posthaste. Just... don't mind the title and the contents. It's commissioned work.
