Item remains highlighted after mouse leave

I noticed that when hovering over items then moving mouse away from the cmdk component, the last item the mouse visited stays highlighted.

This is the same behavior in many popular sites such as

Is there an explicit reason for this behavior as opposed to removing the highlighting/selection on mouseleave?
