This is a very configurable app to collect gps traces and upload the collected traces on an automated schedule.

Should be a faceless background service/app once configured correctly.

Needs remote administration support for configuring.

👍 I think there might be some existing solutions out there that work well. They either could be used immediately or improved slightly to make it ready. A while back I had heard about a GPS collection app from Novel-T, one of the teams behind the Vaccine Tracking System in Nigeria. This app passively collects PLUS stops collecting when it detects that the phone is within a building or house. This ultimately generates a cleaner dataset to work with.

Thanks for the pointer nate. Being highly configurable and tunable to create good data the user wants and use as little power as possible is really core functionality of the software + handling the automated roll over and upload of the data.

GPL Logger for Android I believe is currently the most functional application I have seen in regard to configuration for trace collection and power use.
