Welcome to the HomeUnite.Us wiki!

Welcome to Hack for LA's HomeUnite.Us project! We're working with our partners at Safe Place for Youth (SPY) to develop a workflow management tool, digitizing key moments within SPY’s Host Homes initiative to make the process scaleable, reduce institutional bias, and effectively capture data.

SPY’s host homes program is centered around housing young people, 18 - 25 years old. Their approach focuses on low-cost, community-driven intervention by matching a willing host with a guest or group of guests, providing a stable housing environment for youths who are experiencing homelessness and seeking stable housing.

On any given night in LA county, an estimated 3,926 youths in LA county ages 18-24 experience homeless. Youths are one of the fastest-growing segments of the population of people experiencing homelessness, with a 24% increase from last year. Fortunately, over 2,000 youths previously experiencing homelessness moved into housing last year, many with the help of local community organizations such as SPY. Our tool aims to help Host Homes program administrators digitize their current process, reduce repetitive tasks, and make the matching process more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Please see the links below for more details about the project, and how to get involved.
