Nitpicking: commas; text-alignment #61

  • Nit No. 1: We're not using serial commas elsewhere on the website, so in
'What is a mobile web app?'
'on a computer, tablet or smartphone.'

  • Nit No. 2:
    Redundant 'the organisation'
    'Do I have to be a UK-based non-profit?'
    'or where it is based.'

  • A somewhat larger nit:
All running text is currently centred. Is that a good idea? In conventional, i.e. analogue, typography, the general rule of thumb is, centre (optionally, that is) captions, headings, subheadings, but not running text. The reason for that is that centred text that runs over more than a couple of lines is less readable and everything's emphasised.
Did anyone try justifying the content of the FAQs in centred block quotes to see whether the visual end result might be better/worse?

  • Another large(ish) nit:
Text alignment is currently inconsistent. E.g. in 1-WEEK DESIGN SPRINT, the text is left-justified, while in 2-WEEK BUILD SPRINT it is right-justified with a (not all that pretty, to my eyes at least) ragged left side and further up, everything is fully centred.
Perhaps the design experts could cast their eye on this issue?

I agree that the text in the FAQs should probably not be centred and ought to be justified.

Ragged text is much more readable / accessible!

@sbinlondon & @MissArray the text on the new website is justified.

@arrested-developer having centred questions and a ragged right didn't look great to me, but I'm happy to change it if others disagree.
