Very long build times with 2.8.3 (10+ minutes)

I just did a clean folder with npm init and npm i -S [email protected] with the defaults and nothing else then run ../node_modules/.bin/gulp build and the build gets stuck at divider.css or divider.min.css for like 5-10 minutes without responding. gulp process is at 100% CPU, and 0 memory.

I saw similar long build.
For my end, clean build completes successfully for 10-15 minutes.
It seems that creating the huge emoji.css take so long.
Could you try waiting for 1 hour and see build still stuck ?

It does complete eventually, but takes 10+ minutes.

We've been looking at upgrading to 2.8.x from 2.7.7 and we're experiencing the same issue. Was really looking forward to using the new Emoji's in our app. Is there a workaround or a way to target just certain emoji's you'd like to use?

Yes, if you edit the emoji.overrides and remove all emojis you don't need

Closing, because the speed depends on build machine power (i use an i7+16GB RAM and it takes "only" 2-3 minutes for me) and the emoji list (which causes the longer build time) can be adjusted as shown above which will then reduce the build time. Maybe a later LESS Version optimizes the map iteration
