I'd like to look at some modern cosmic horror (like John Honor Jacobs), in addition to some of the original Lovecraft stories.
NOTE: Tracking copyrighted material is very important here. Importantly, descriptions of different beings from Lovecraft stories are completely public domain and can be used to inform a game's own descriptions, while similar descriptions from August Derleth novels or Chaosium games (to pick an examples) are copyrighted --sometimes aggressively so.
An internal "game bible" compiled of the creatures, their attributes, and their relationships with each other should note the source of each fact so that the game only uses facts known to be public domain. Where we need other creatures and relationships, it is probably better to invent from whole cloth rather than rely on newer inventions.
