The description of a repository is usually null when creating a repo.
But after editing the settings for a repo via the Web UI, e.g. to enable some feature that can only be enabled via the Web UI, the description is changed to an empty string instead.

In order to avoid inconsistencies for nothing, we should treat null and "" the same for text fields.
