Triggering function before @HostListener('onOpen') is triggered.

Currently I am capturing the opening of a modal instance through a directive using the following:

  @HostListener('onOpen')
  public onOpen() {
    // this triggers AFTER the modal opens
  }

This is triggered only once the modal opens.

My question is, is there a way to trigger a function BEFORE the @HostListener('onOpen') is triggered (BEFORE the modal actually opens)?
