I’m Des. I design software.

Specifically I design user experiences (UX) and advise companies on what to build in their version one, how to gain customers and how to keep them happy. I do this by understanding the following…

The domain the software is targeting.

The customers the application owner hopes for.

The technical constraints that the software must work within.

The real world data that will be presented within the application.

The tangible measurable goals of the design

My work typically involves the production of personas, sketches, and wireframes, followed later in development by measurement via analytics reports and user testing.

Working

I am the User Experience lead at Contrast. We design and develop software for ourselves and for clients. Our own product Exceptional is a very popular web based error handler for most popular languages.

My day to day work in Contrast involves meeting clients & their customers to gain a full understanding of the business. Then I design the customer experience that will be most profitable in the long term.

Before Contrast, I was a senior analyst at iQ Content, Irelands largest usability firm. Previous to that I worked as a lecturer and researcher in NUI Maynooth.
