Description

There are several minor content changes from CAIA that have been grouped on this ticket. (I can split into different tickets if needed)

Title Location Description
Change text to active voice on intro screen Intro screen, first paragraph, second sentence The second sentence in the first paragraph needs to change: CURRENT TEXT: If your application goes through and your discharge is upgraded, you’ll be eligible for the VA benefits you earned during your period of service. NEW TEXT: If we accept your application and upgrade your discharge, you'll be eligible for the VA benefits you earned during your period of service. Image
Change text to be in line with updated accredited representative content Intro screen, first accordion titled: Can I get VA benefits without a discharge upgrade?", second paragraph. The second paragraph in this accordion needs to change: CURRENT TEXT: You may want to consider finding someone to advocate on your behalf, depending on the complexity of your case. A lawyer or Veterans Service Organization (VSO) can collect and submit supporting documents for you. Find a VSO near you. NEW TEXT: An accredited attorney, claims agent, or Veterans Service Organization (VSO) representative can help you gather your evidence and submit your application. Get help from an accredited representative Image
Change all instances of DoD to DOD Introduction and results (search for all instances) There are many instances of "DoD' in the wizard (examples below). All DoD should be DOD: e.g. Defense Department (DOD), Department of Defense (DOD), DOD. DOD Form [number]
Change the title of Question 3 so that it's a question Question 3: Tell us why you want to change your discharge paperwork. Question 3 isn't written as a question; it's currently a statement or direction. The following change will keep in line with all other questions: CURRENT TEXT: Tell us why you want to change your discharge paperwork. NEW TEXT: Which of the following best describes why you want to change your discharge paperwork? Choose the one that's closest to your situation
For all notes, make the word 'Note:' bold Various places throughout the wizard Where there is the text "Note:", with a note or instructions after it, then Note: should be bold.
The first time form 293 is mentioned, the full form name should display, along with the form number Various places Form 293 For results pages where we introduce DOD Form 293, the first time the form is mentioned, the full form name should display e.g. Application for the Review of Discharge From the Armed Forces of the United States (DOD Form 293). Subsequent mentions on the same page can simply display "DOD Form 293' Below is current text and new text, as well as steps to reproduce, although this form is referenced on other results pages as well and should be updated everywhere it's used. Also, any instances of 'Form 293' should display as 'DOD Form 293'. CURRENT TEXT: Based on your answers, you need to complete Department of Defense (DoD) Form 293 and send it to .... [dynamic text depending on the review board for the military branch the veteran served in]. NEW TEXT: Based on your answers, you'll need to complete an Application for the Review of Discharge From the Armed Forces of the United States (DOD Form 293) and send it to.... [dynamic text depending on the review board for the military branch the veteran served in].
Change the yellow warning title and text on the Results screen(s): Need help preparing your application? Results screens On various results screens where the VA is instructing Veterans to fill out a form, there is a block of text highlighted in yellow with a warning icon. The title and text needs to change as shown below: CURRENT TITLE: Need help preparing your application? CURRENT TEXT: The process of preparing a discharge upgrade or correction application can be a lot of work and can take a long time. Although many Veterans are successful on their own, you may want to consider finding someone to advocate for you in this process. Try a Veterans Service Organization (VSO), search online for a lawyer who may provide services for low or no cost, or ask other Veterans for recommendations. Find a VSO near you (opens in a new tab). NEW TITLE: If you need help filling out your form NEW TEXT: You can appoint an accredited attorney, claims agent, or Veterans Service Organization (VSO) representative. Get help from an accredited representative
The first time form 149 is mentioned, the full form name should display, along with the form number Various results screens with DOD Form 149 For results pages where we introduce DOD Form 149, we need to add the full form name to the text. Below is current text/new text, as well as steps to reproduce, although I believe that this form is referenced on other results pages as well and should be updated everywhere. Also, any instances of 'Form 149' should display as 'DOD Form 149'. Current text: Based on your answers, you need to complete Department of Defense (DoD) Form 149 and send it to the Board for Correction of Naval Records (BCNR) for the Navy. NEW TEXT: Based on your answers, you'll need to complete an Application for Correction of Military Record (DOD 149) and send it to.... [dynamic text depending on the review board for the military branch the veteran served in]. Steps to Reproduce (one scenario): 1. Branch of service: Marine Corps 2. Year of discharge: 2008 3. Reason for changing paperwork... I suffered from undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or untreated posttraumatic stress disorder PTSD), ... 4. Previously denied a discharge upgrade: I have not previously applied for a discharge upgrade for this period of service. 7. Completed an earlier period of service: No, I didn’t complete an earlier period of service.
Remove the word 'Please' from 'Please Note' in Results > Additional Resources Bottom of Results pages At the bottom of all Results screens, there is an "Additional Resources" section, with a note at the bottom that starts with the text "Please note:". Remove the word 'Please' and display "Note:"
