HFOSS Project Selection

When selecting a project, our first consideration is the programming language of the project. We want to prioritize working in Python over Java over something else.
Only three projects are listed as Python, which makes it easy to narrow to narrow our candidates to three: Amara, Cadasta, and Sugar Labs.

Cadasta is focused on helping communities document their land rights.

Amara is focused on online video accessibility. It allows a user to add subtitles and captions to videos.

Sugar Labs is focused on helping children learn through software. [In Progress]
The next step will be to take a closer look at each project and ensure that we can actually get each candidate built and running on our machines; there's little point to trying a project that we can't actually access.
