Error: ipython profile_default/pid: permission denied

I set up this project a month ago and (IIRC) it built successfully, but I've come back to it and found that the .ipython folder was owned by root (it was the only folder that this was the case), and trying to build the project with docker threw the error "Error: ipython profile_default/pid: permission denied."

Changing the folder to local user ownership solved the problem, but I just want check that this ownership is correct because I didn't really find it in the docs or by googling and I don't want to be back next week because my ipython stopped doing something. BTW terrific project!
