Should we use a pre-processor?

Although the pre-processor makes it more convienient for the developer to define
RPC functions (by doing nothing) it makes it harder to reason with the compiled
code.

It might not be a good idea to keep the changes made by the pre-processor
transparent to the programmer.

This pre-processor can possibly be made an external tool that modifies the code
which can be visible to the developer.
