I'm wondering if this might be an issue due to using Ableton Live 9.

Thanks for reporting the issue. I've seen this before, so far I have yet
to determine a single cause. I found this part of Ableton's API to be
pretty finicky.

See if you can open it in Max as described there and look at the contents

of the Max window.

OK,TY. This solved the issue -- the debugger window in Max revealed that I had multiple copies of Max installed, resulting in the files being copied to an unused installation of Max.

Anyone else run into an issue like this I highly recommend making sure the build file is pointing to the correct installation locations for Ableton and Max
