I don't know if you have this problem, but one thing we have struggled with at Open Twin Cities is having a public place where somebody can find out if an ongoing project is new, active, dead, etc. Adding a simple Project Status field with values like 'Idea', 'Active', 'Abandoned', etc... could be really useful.
Related to this, other bits of metadata could help people interested in a project learn more or find ways to contribute. These could include:
Skills needed
Non-Github project assets (e.g. a Google Doc, a Tableau, some project management site)
Social medias and websites

Thanks, that is solid feedback. I agree and found it slightly tough to differentiate during the last hackathon we ran with this. I ended up using the admin interface to delete, but abandoned or something would be better, so you can keep a record.
For now, customizing the field for the Github link seems decent. Other stuff could simply be attached in the project description. Status however seems like an easy, quick one which I will implement then close the issue.
