Content Club

What is Content Club?
I was chatting with @earth2marsh recently, where we were spoke about the challenge of how we grow attention of the great ideas that come out of the platforms working group. This gave me the idea of creating a "content club", where we pick a shared topic for us to write about each month that we can then read/contrast/comment on. Anyone interested can contribute by creating or discussing content around that topic—articles, videos, blog posts, tutorials, or other formats.

Goals and Benefits:

  • Deepen Knowledge: By exploring the same topic together, from diverse perspectives, we collectively learn more and gain new insights.
  • Community Engagement: Thematic alignment makes it easier to promote the topic as a group, amplifying individual contributions while supporting the broader mission of promoting best practices.
  • Network Effect: Linking content around a shared theme creates a natural ‘ring’ of interconnected ideas, helping to drive interest and visibility for contributors and the topic itself.
  • Content Inspiration: For those of us who benefit from prompts (like me!), this provides a focused starting point to spark creativity.

How It Works:

  • Topic Proposal: At the beginning of each month, a topic will be chosen.
  • Content Creation: Participants can create and share their content by the end of the month.
  • Sharing & Promotion: We’ll circulate and promote the content across our networks, driving more engagement.
  • Feedback & Growth: Discuss lessons learned and consider how the shared perspectives can influence our working group’s direction.

Next Steps:
I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas for improving this concept. I think monthly might be too aggressive a timescale, for example. It might make more sense to write about a topic one month and discuss it the next.

I think it would be fantastic to increase more shared resources based on all the great chats in our WG! 🙌💪🎉

I think the question is really what support you feel the WG/TAG would provide over and above a network of people to collaborate with.

I would be cautious about making any of the blogs too "official" as we have spoken about blogs as having an intentionally lower barrier of entry to drive early conversations.

So what can we as WG leads do to support you in this idea? Happy to chat in our next WG call or via another more synchronous format as well if you want to brainstorm a bit!

I agree - this should be individually created content.

In terms of support - it would be great to get some air time / support during our meetings. Ideas on topics of interest that might align with the broader community could be helpful.

My lofty goal is that we can further the cause by focussing minds on topic at a time. Those might lead to a "call for action", like a reference architecture or some other document that we can create/publish more formally through the WG.

In the short term though, if it's successful and we have a few months of good momentum, then we have the option of content remaining individual, and the WG producing an "official" round up of the content for the previous month. But you know, let's walk before we can run 😄

Absolutely all makes sense. We try to leave ~30 min for discussions which may work well for bringing up a topic and evaluating the different perspectives on it.

Aside from that, of course please add this initiative to the agenda and you can speak about goals/asks etc during that phase of the meetings 🙌

I like the idea too, and echo what Abby said that content not being "official" as a lot of this maybe opinions that may/may not be what the WG/TAG have to say.

Having said that, we must have detailed plan for each month/week so that we start and have the momentum to keep it going.

Happy to support in some capacity.
