Building relationships with like-minded organisations #2
Comments
Here is a document I track partnering with organisations and individuals in Africa. This is a working document updated monthly. |
@kariljordan and I are part of a project leadership team supporting a grant funded by the National Science Foundation, Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) program. This team includes partners from the Academic Data Science Alliance, the Native BioData Consortium, AUC Data Science Initiative, RIOS Institute, and the Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement. |
We submitted a TransforME grant through the Lenovo Foundation in collaboration with Data.org and Digital Frontiers to strengthen the data in social sciences capabilities of at least 100 practitioners employed in social impact organizations in Africa. |

The Catalyst Project, funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. We are looking for African organisations to partner with to create a collaborative cloud infrastructure service enabling community-based cloud-native workflow(s) in the Biomedical, Health, and Public Health Sciences. The project will promote values of open and inclusive community practices, infrastructure that enables these practices, and a "train the trainers" approach that empowers community leaders to share expertise in cloud infrastructure with others in their communities. We want to learn how this model could be extended to other global communities historically marginalised from large-scale scientific infrastructure projects. This collaborative effort is between 2i2c, The Carpentries, CSCCE, Invest in Open Infrastructure, MetaDocencia, and Open Life Science. Please review the blog post with the entire grant narrative for more detailed information. This year The Carpentries is undertaking an effort to build up to two strategic alliances. What is a Strategic Alliance? For non-profit organisations, strategic alliances should enhance their mission and impact while leveraging their partners' strengths. The alliance should:
In 2024 we prioritize sustainability and community capacity building by dedicating resources, such as personnel time and finances, to support The Carpentries' core activities. Our goal is to increase operating reliance to 80% by the end of 2025. We can achieve this through alliance activities that a) generate unrestricted revenue and b) boost volunteer engagement in core activities. Collaboration with other organisations should focus on areas that either increase revenue or enhance volunteer involvement to address capacity needs. |
