Goal 6 in the Carpentries strategic plan is to Advocate for our values and vision to empower more people to work with data and software. Under this goal is the following objective:
Encourage Core Team and Community members to

  • serve on advisory boards of other organisations to provide guidance and advocacy in areas key to The Carpentries mission and vision and
  • respond to requests for comments in these areas.

This issue collects information on boards or committees that Carpentries' Core Team and community members are a part of, and any requests for comments we have responded to related to advocating for more people to work with data and software.

Since June 2024 I have been a member of the Generalist Repository Ecosystem Initiative (GREI) Working Group. The charge for the working group is as follows:

  • Review the current scope and goals of the GREI as well as progress to date;
  • Provide recommendations on future GREI objectives and goals, based on progress in the context of the larger repository ecosystem and the biomedical research community needs;
  • Provide recommendations on future success measures for proposed future GREI objectives and goals, accounting for a diverse community of researchers.

Additionally, my goal is to determine whether there is potential strategic alignment between The Carpentries goals and those of the generalist repositories. This work supplements our GREI subaward.
