Using the messages in Python Code

Hello,
I want to use the variables like velocity, steer angle, etc. in my Python code. For the same, do I define the values as they are in my python code or do I call them from the .msg file. I am a bit confused as to how I can access these variables. I will be executing a code for the vehicle using these variables. Please let me know what I can do.
