The current lead-in-school-water activity is great, but only has a draw for local students. It would be nice to use a national, or even world-wide dataset so that the activity is more accessible to students from outside Delaware, which is a small state whose very existence is in doubt.
A good dataset would have:
at least county-level US data
be accessible via API
be updated relatively regularly
have some draw to it
be about events that most people have some understanding of (e.g. maybe not voting)
would be better if comparable across the planet, but that's hard to achieve (maybe a stretch goal for the future)
Transportation data is a good candidate, but much of it has very little draw. Accident/injury/death rates per mile driven might be good.
