When you accelerate/decelerate there should be Momentum. If you wanted to accelerate to 0.5, your train would slowly and smoothly accelerate to 0.5. Same with slowing down. Momentum would also be determined by the length of your train, the speed you are going and the grade/elevation. This would be turned on by default and could be turned off in the config.
