I have mine appear on the right side, has an animation, usually recedes back that way towards the edge of the screen when I stop scrolling.
Some unknown action causes it to add a large area of blank space in between it and the edge of the screen. This seems to happen unrelated to the animation, as it has a sudden jolting motion then this occurs.
I have experienced this both with the autohide option enabled or disabled. IT always seems to autohide no matter that option's value.
It also seems to jitter aggressively so it was difficult to find and use the workaround, which is trying to click the setting wheel in the top corner, which fixes the pane to animate away and the extra space disappears.
I think this happens no matter if Atom is being used fullscreen in its own space on a separate monitor or not.
After some work it seems the largely annoying point is that this is triggered on save for a file, possibly because I have newlines being added for that event?
