Description

I've downloaded 20.11.1 Dashboard and Launcher. Unzipped in regular windows download folder. Double click on "Dashboard.exe" or "Launcher.exe". The mouse cursor icon spins for a second, then the app closes.

General Troubleshooting

  • I carefully followed the instructions in the README and successfully completed the setup wizard
  • I read the ALVR GitHub Wiki

Environment

Windows 11 Pro - no pending updates as of 11/21/24

Hardware

Note: for Linux, an upload to the hw-probe database is preferred: hw-probe -all -upload

CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K 3.00 GHz

GPU: MSI NVidia 4090 24GB

GPU Driver Version: 32.0.15.6614

Audio: Not Sure

Installation

ALVR Version: 20.11.1

ALVR Settings File: None (doesn't create a settings.json file)

SteamVR Version: 2.8.6

Install Type:

  • Packaged (exe, deb, rpm, etc)
  • Portable (zip)
  • Source

OS Name and Version : Windows 11 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4460)

I've tried disabling everything in Windows Defender, and "Run As Administrator". Same behavior.

Tried with SteamVR open and closed.

Can't find where there might be log output.

I was able to make the Dashboard and Launcher launch by opening a Command Prompt window, dragging the .exe icon into that window, and pressing enter. The ALVR window opens and works as expected. The Command Prompt shows the following line...

"Failed to read versions dir: The system cannot find the path specified. (os error 3)"
