What controls the height of the "boxes" in the list view?

This is probably a dumb question, but where exactly is the height of the post boxes in list view controlled?

I'm experimenting with having separate "notes". I.E. Twitter-like short-form posts without a title like so:

But, what I'd like to do is compress that box a lot more since it doesn't need so much space.

Nevermind. Found it: --gap in theme-vars.css. Even figured out how to override it with:

{{- if (eq .RelPermalink "/notes/") }}
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/theme-vars-override.css">
{{- end }}

Setting --gap to only 5 pixels worked like a charm, but it appears to also control the gaps of the menu items. So - I gave up as I don't have the energy to unpick that...
