Verified issue does not already exist?

  • I have searched and found no existing issue
  • I will be providing steps how to reproduce the bug (in most cases this will also mean uploading a demo budget file)

What happened?

From what I can see , net worth reports what is directly assigned to a category from a transaction and not the balances when I introduce a filter. In the screenshots , I have a initial net worth of 13,549.73. I have a category that holds 6940. If I do a filter to not include this category, the new balance is now 3484.92.

I've tried a similar situation in a new budget file (thinking the issue might've been my import) but it behaves the same.

I believe this happens due to any category filter - even exclusion filters - limiting the search to transactions with a category. This leaves out off-budget and uncategorized transactions.

If you're interested in a workaround until it gets fixed, this is what I do: add a "category is (nothing)" filter and switch the "all" dropdown to "any"

To add a (nothing) filter, just add a category filter and leave the field empty - don't type anything or select a category - then click "Apply".

Tried your workaround but still doesn't add up.

I'm afraid there's more to consider than what you are sharing when looking at the net worth calculations. Would you be willing to share your budget?

Same behavior on this new one but I think I figured it out. When you select "is not" and use a category , it eliminates transactions on budget regarding the category, but not the category balance itself.

Sounds like more of an issue with filters than with net worth graph. Do you mind closing this bug and opening one that explains the issues you're having with filters?
