I have been having the same issue with the app for some time. If I pause an episode part way through (such as when I am driving and arrive at work part way through an episode) and try to resume later in the day or the following day, the episode will start playing from the point I was at, but after a minute or two it will suddenly shift the playback position and the episode timer no longer matches the actual episode timer. Usually, this shift rewinds the episode for anywhere from 20 seconds to perhaps a minute. The episode will play through to the end however, because the episode timer no longer matches the actual episode length, sometimes the episode will stop playing before the episode is actually over and begin the next episode, or it will finish the episode with the timer going beyond what it says the episode length should be. Usually when the later happens the app displays an error and I have to intervene to get the next episode to play. I have suspected for some time that this is caused by different ads being loaded in the background compared to what may have been prepared during the initial start of the episode. This is just my theory.

I have been listening to a podcast (streaming) called "Impact Winter". This podcast has no ads in it and has not had the issue with jumping playback position when resuming an episode.
