"How many presses do you want to simulate?"

I'm curious to know how does configuring: "How many presses do you want to simulate?" work. It looks like the default is two, and after the last update, I am noticing double presses. So for example, my SwitchBot bot that controls the nightlight in my bathroom, will now trigger twice, thus, ultimately turning it off, when the desired effect is to have it turn on. I switched the setting to: 1, and that seems to have fixed it. I'm just curious to understand a bit more how this setting works? TIA.
