How to create elements in Word document for export to Wod

I am trying to use word export. I have created word template with our company header and footer. In between header and footer, I have created elements like empname <>

My word document template has below content

This is reference to the Employee ID <> ,Mr.<>

I gave the empname value in POI Word object properties, When I use export to word ,template is opening but the empname value is not placing in the placeholder of empname <> in wod document.

How to add placehoders in word document. Do we need to use
any xml or directly we can add elements like <>.
