Tiny Protests #123
Comments
This is the latest iteration of a concept I first developed as a Twitter bot, and later as a minimalist e-poem for Taper. Here's a link to the Twitter bot version, which marches every hour on a variety of topics and in many different protest configurations: @TinyProtests Here's a link to the Taper version, which places @TinyProtests in conversation with the Puerto Rico themed @Protestitas bot: TinyProtests/Protestitas. Enjoy! |
I am privileged to do my master thesis on @Protestitas |
Oh, I love the bot and didn't notice it was yours! Nice! |
It is not mine. I am just working on it. |
I authored the bot. Waliya is studying it for his MA thesis.

Yes that is it!! |
This perl script generates a 50,000+ "word" (based on the average of 6 characters per word) protest march.
Huge thanks to Nick Montfort, who provided the inspiration with his Nano-NaNoGenMo spinoff concept, which lowered the technical bar enough for me to adapt Milton Läufer's code for "A Plot."
Here's the code:
perl -e 'sub n{(split/ /,"🤨 🧐 😒 😞 😔 😟 😕 🙁 😣 😖 😫 😩 🥺 😢 😭 😤 😠 😡 🤬 🤯 😳 🥵 😱 😨 😰 😥 😓 🤔 🤭 🤫 😶 😐 😑 😬 🙄 😯 😦 😧 😮 😲 🥱 😵 🤮 🤐 🤕")[rand 45]}print"Tiny Protests\nLeo Flores\n ☀️\n\n 🌳🇺🇸🏛⛲️🌲\n";for(;$i<33333;$i++){print"🏢\n🏢".n.n.n.n.n.n.n}print"\n IMPEACH TRUMP!\n"'
And here's the code I shared on Twitter, which was reading some emoji as more characters than my text editor:
Twitter version: perl -e 'sub n{(split/ /,"🤨 😣 😖 😫 😩 🥺 😢 😭 😤 😠 😡 🤬 🤯 😳 🥵 😱 😨 😰 😥 😓 🤔 🤭 🤫 😐 😑 😬 🙄 😯 😦 😧 😮 😲 😵 🤮 🤐 🤕")[rand 36]}print"Tiny Protests\nLeo Flores\n ☀️\n\n 🌳🇺🇸🏛⛲️🌲\n";for(;$i<33333;$i++){print"🏢\n🏢".n.n.n.n.n.n.n}print"\n IMPEACH TRUMP!\n"'
Here's sample output in 3 formats:
NNNGM Tiny Protests.pdf
NNNGM Tiny Protests.docx
NNNGM Tiny Protests.txt
And here's an excerpt of its output.
