Hopefully in the eLife sprint we're going to add a lot of functionality fast, so it would be nice to know that we're not breaking existing functionality! At present there are two very high-level integration-type tests, so let's add some more. I'd be keen to have input & discussion about what level it would be useful to have tests at.

Ok, #29 has bumped coverage up to 65% but we can do better...
