There'not much to be confused about since there isn't much here yet. The Basil viewer project will create a viewer system that can use different rendering engines (initially Threejs/WebGL and Unreal Engine) and connect on the back-end to multiple virtual worlds (initially OpenSimulator and High Fidelity). This is a project I've been noodling on for a while. Some initial thinking at http://blog.misterblue.com/2015/2015-05-23-one-viewer-to-rule-them-all/ and at the project site http://blog.misterblue.com/basil/architecture/. I haven't had time to work on it much the last few months but I'm going to have time to dive in this summer. Stay tuned.
It has been years since this query but I have been slowly working on the viewer.
There is now a very alpha version running at https://basil.bluestuff.org/ which is a view into a region on OSGrid (a grid based on OpenSimulator ). Some things are limping but there is still a lot not working.
In December 2022, I presented the Basil Viewer at OpenSimulator Community Conference 2022 . The presentation slides are here.
The project slowly marches on.
