make start polling an awaitable future

Well, as the title suggests...
Start polling is a function that should block the whole script, or at least, there should be an awaitable version.
The only way i tought of, of knowing if the polling stops is to add an onDone function to one of the handlers, but this is really ugly and probably somewhat could lead to miscarriadges
