Welcome to the commentative wiki! If you're not sure what you're looking at, it's worth starting with the slides from the Hack the Press demo.

Aims

Commentative came out of a discussion about how people interact when they want to share content, and share their thoughts about that content.

Commentative aims to help those interactions by doing three things differently:

  • Frictionless: We're trying to help people have a conversation. Logging in, installing plugins, dismissing pop-ups don't.
  • Open: People don't limit their conversations about content to specific websites or content types.
  • Friendly: A URL is shared between people who already know each other. So no infectious toxicity.

Things we should do in future

Discovery

  • Destination to discover content - a person you follow marked up this article

Flexibility

  • Non-text content - podcasts, videos
  • Treat comments and articles equally - this article was annotated with this article

External sources

  • Proxy to the source URL to enable paywalls and copyright
  • Integrate non-comment markup - this article’s trust score is 73%

Interaction

  • Think about integrating TogetherJS (or similar).
