** Howdy, partner.
In 1687, Newton discovered gravity. In 1953, scientists discovered DNA.
In 2018… Transit discovered email.
Yeah. We’re late to the party. But don’t worry: we’ve got a bottle of wine and a bucket of jokes. We’ll be using this newsletter to regale you with tales from the frontlines of transit tech. Research we’ve conducted on emerging mobility trends. Tools we’ve developed to help your agency. New ways you can leverage Transit to delight your users. All that… plus other mysterious projects we don’t announce publicly. 🙊
We want this to be a way for you to easily, painlessly, perhaps even enjoyably keep tabs on the latest happenings at Transit. Because in this fast-moving business of moving people fast… it’s good to have a copilot.
** NEW FEATURES
** TRANSIT BRANCHES
How do you make something “hopelessly complicated” feel “effortlessly simple”? That’s the challenge we faced when designing Branch Cards. For many riders, branched transit lines pose a problem: often, there’s only one branch they want to take. So, instead of forcing users to scroll through branch after branch after branch after branch — searching for the magical one — we now group all of a line’s branches together, in one card. Which means you can easily look up departure times for your favourite branch. No endless scrolling required.
** SHARING SYSTEMS
We love helping people discover new transit modes. Dockless bikeshare. Scootershare. Mopedshare. (Yes, these days, you can pretend you’re a formaggio-filled honeymooner in Tuscany thanks to Scoot (https://goo.gl/JnV8m6) .) We wanted to make these modes even more accessible — so we refreshed our sharing system interface. Less clutter. Fewer taps. Easier than ever. For starters: we now only show dockless “pins” when you’re zoomed in. (Who cares how many bikes there are on the other side of town? Us, but not you.) And we simplified those pins and menus by removing a superfluous, painful tap. Only pins, no needles now.
** SHARING IS GOOD FOR YOU
** DDDOCKLESS BABY 👋🚢
We’ve allowed you to locate, unlock, and pay for docked bikes for a while. Now we're bringing in dockless bikes, with ofo, JUMP, Mobike, Spin, and LimeBike. In October we became the first (and only) app (https://goo.gl/2MmmJz) to let you check for nearby docked and dockless bikeshare. So far, so good. But we were curious: how did docked vs. dockless compare? Which is easier to find during rush hour? And what was coverage like in less affluent neighbourhoods? We crunched the numbers in one of our first dockless markets: Washington, DC.
We’ve joined BlaBlaCar, Citymapper, Didi, Keolis, LimeBike, Lyft, Mobike, Motivate, Ofo, Ola, Scoot Networks, Uber, Via and Zipcar as the original signees (signers? signuaries? you know what we mean) of the Shared Mobility Principles. (https://goo.gl/7BnCee) It aligns us with cities — committing us to building technology that is open, shared, integrated, and equitable.
** PARTNERSHIPS
We’re always looking for transit agencies to join our no-cost partner program. We provide world-class data, tools, and technical support in exchange for promoting Transit as your agency's recommended app. Dozens of transit agencies trust Transit to give their customers a world-class mobile experience.
