Materials Purchase update - 3/23 - 3pm #31
Comments
Re: elastic, I found 1000 yards of 1-inch elastic that can be overnighted from Mauldin, SC but it was NOT Button Elastic. So, Tom told me not to pursue. Re: clear plastic material, I know that PETGClear is being delivered by Piedmont Plastics. The Infection Prevention (IP) Dept @ Atrium Health needs more info about that clear plastic material to see if it is OK by CDC standards. Can you send me info ASAP? Thx |
ok, will chase down with piedmont plastics. I do not know much about plastics. Do we know what specs to ask for? Also, have secured about 200lbs of PETG and 200lbs of PLA in moorsville - need transportation - they will hold it for us until Thursday. |
Thank You! I found this on Piedmont Plastics website. Is this what we purchased? If so, it seems like PP could confirm:
@thomasd538 Did we get any sort of invoice / bill? That might help also. |
Talked PP they are emailing spec to me and Tom. Will post as soon as I get it |
Amazing. Thx! |
Guys, a quick update.
On the buttonhole elastic, I spoke to Gifford DelGrande of AEC Narrow Fabrics today, he is working on our requirement and I am awaiting a return call. If I don't hear back by mid morning I will follow up with him. Thanks, |
I was introduced to people in Bulk Sales @ Joann and asked about the cost of 1-inch Buttonhole Elastic. They have 0.75-inch online: But confirming if they have 1-inch as well, since that is what Tom requested. Will let you know what I hear! |
You looking to buy approximately 90 rolls of PETG and 90 rolls of PLA? I'm running 15 printers, 50g per part, each part takes 3 hours, so I use about 8-12 pounds a day, depending how many times I get up at night to start new prints. Maybe try to buy half that if possible? I have enough PETG for the week and a month's worth of PLA I'm happy to use up for this project, I got it cheap and rarely print with it. |
Thanks Jeremy, we put in the order and now need to arrange for pick today or latest tomorrow. Will check if we can change quantity, worst case the fab lab students will have enough filaments for their projects next year :) ds |
@fireroad602 Got the detail spec from Piedmont - just sent to you via email |
Priority for today is to get truck to pick up 400lbs of filament from Moorsville and arrange for payment If someone can help please contact Scott @sgardner9015 to get detail (Scott Gardner [email protected] / +1 919 434 8836) |
@fireroad602 do you know if the 1 inch fit into the new RC2 model with the adjustable strap slots?? If yes, I think it may be good to purchase @sgardner9015 did we get an answer from the button elastic provider? |
@danjstone This is what they used last night. So I will go ahead and purchase. |

Budmen designs has set up a channel for pre-cut plastic. We have received many requests for where to buy the clear plastic material, we have been coordinating with PaperGala to make pre-cut and hole punched sheets available. They are now ready for order. Does this help us get to assembly faster? |
I cut 137 straps last night. Ill drop them off at the lab this evening with my prints.

@thomasd538 I have a volunteer w. an SUV who can go pick up the Filament in Mooresville. How do you want to pay for it? Invoice CLS or I can give them my business card and get reimbursed later. |
Guys,
Quick update after our call:
waiting for update on availability and price
2. Filament - we are reaching out to https://www.fiberich-usa.com/ the company in Mooresville that jeremy recommended. Please post on this thread any other.
for 10K mask we need 800lbs of filament. For now we are trying to get 200lbs PLA and 200lbs PETG. that should get us a lot of the way there if we include people own inventory.
Once we have a final decision on PLA vs. PETG we can go ahead and try to purchase the rest of the amount.

Let us know if this is incorrect
Please list any link or other sources / contact that we can work with as suppliers
Thanks,
Dan
