We have two 2015 Macbook Airs with Ubuntu installed that are good candidates for future surface competition laptops. They do not have ethernet ports. They can communicate over our ROS network and control thrusters using an USB-ethernet adapter, but they can't receive video from our FLIR ethernet cams.
The front cam definitely works over the USB-ethernet adapter when connecting to SpinView (debugging program available with the Spinnaker SDK) on a Windows laptop, but SpinView hasn't been released for Ubuntu 24 yet, so it's difficult to debug on Ubuntu on the Macs.
